CREW CASE STUDY
Situation
Established in Sydney in 2010 and Melbourne in 2011, Compliance and Risk Executive Women (CREW) is an informal networking forum for women in senior compliance, risk and governance related roles within the Australian financial services sector, run by Penni James.
With over 700 members, CREW meets regularly to discuss current issues and topics, swap information and experiences, build networks and to have some fun. CREW aims to have a balance between technical risk and compliance topics and the ‘softer’ skills that are so important for a successful career.
Elements
With a background in Financial Services, specialising in Risk and Compliance for a number of years, Holly Gibbons has a depth of understand and rapport with the members of CREW. Penni James invited Holly to speak at the 2018 and 2019 December events on the topics of Resilience, Releasing Stress and Embracing a Vision for 2020. With the onset of the pandemic, Holly also presented at three virtual CREW forums.
Whilst no one predicted the outcomes for 2020, a survey run by Holly of the CREW members indicated that the key drivers of stress during the pandemic revolved around uncertainty and worry.
Objectives
To support the women in CREW to strengthen their resilience in light of the regulatory environment in the Australian financial services sector over the past few years.
To teach the women in CREW stress management tools to enable them to maintain their wellbeing and performance in their life and work.
During COVID-19, the objectives for the sessions were to reduce the stress caused from the level of uncertainty and worry directly as a result of the pandemic.
